Short version: your suburb is public, your address is not, and we do not sell anything about you to anyone.
What other people can see
- Your display name and profile photo
- Your general area, at suburb level, never an address or exact location
- Your bio, your listings and their photos
- Your rating, your reviews and how many swaps you have completed
- The month you joined
What stays private
- Your email address
- Your phone number, if you ever give us one
- Your exact location or address
- Your Google account identifier
- Your messages. They are between you and the person you are swapping with. An administrator can open a conversation only to deal with a report or a safety problem, and every such opening is recorded.
You can share your phone number or address in a chat if you want to. That is your call, and the app never does it for you.
Photos
Phone photos often carry the location they were taken at. We strip that, and every other embedded tag, when a photo is uploaded, and we keep only the resized versions we show in the app.
What we store and why
- Your profile, so people know who they are swapping with
- Your listings, offers, swaps and reviews, so the marketplace works
- Your messages, so a conversation still exists tomorrow
- Your email, to sign you in and to send you the few notifications you can turn off in your profile
- Your push subscription, only if you turn on notifications, and only to send them
Sign in with Google
When you sign in we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. Nothing else, and we never post anything anywhere on your behalf.
Your browser
We keep your sign in token in your browser so you stay signed in, and the area you browse (a place and a distance) so it is still there next time. If you tap Use my location, your browser hands the app a rough position, rounded to about a kilometre, which is used to find listings near you and is never stored. We count visits with Umami, which runs on our own server: no cookies, nothing that identifies you, only which pages are opened and roughly where visitors came from (a Facebook group, a search). There are no advertising cookies and no third party trackers.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent your information. The app and its database run on a server in Sydney, Australia. Three outside services touch a small piece of it: Google, for sign in (they tell us your name, email and photo; we tell them nothing); OpenStreetMap Photon and Nominatim, which receive the name of a town someone types into a search, never who asked; and Zoho Mail in Australia, which carries the notification emails. If we ever add another, this page will say so first.
Deleting things, including your account
You can take a listing down at any time. You can also delete your whole account yourself: open You, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account. It takes effect straight away and does not need us to do anything.
What goes: your profile, email address, photos, listings, saved items, notifications and push subscription. Any swap still in progress is called off and the other person is told.
What stays: swaps you completed, reviews you left, and messages you sent inside a swap. They are part of someone else's history too, so they stay, with your name shown as "Former member" and no photo. If you would rather we remove those as well, email us and we will talk it through.
